About
Established 1942 · Proudly Serving Western Australia
Founded
in 1942
Founded in 1942 by Mickey Powell, the ADS has been a driving force within the dance industry for over 80 years, continuing today in its important work as a Society to foster and encourage Australian dance.
The ADS was a foundation member of The Australian Dancing Board and was instrumental in the formation of DanceSport Australia (DSA). Beginning as a Victorian organisation, a national structure with state-based branches was implemented during the 1980s.
The ADS has enriched the lives of many by providing a pathway from recreational to amateur and professional accreditation and competitive dancing — including an extensive dance syllabus, examination range and locally and nationally conducted championships.
